I admire your dedication and persistence. Interesting looking project.

I dusted off your TS after 2 yrs and intend to make it work. How did you make this to run on one batt. and three caps? 2200uF don't hold enough charge and mosfets won't switch their coils.
That's what I tried today and for a while kept wondering why three mosfets aren't switching and only one is working (the one which has coil connected to the battery). Supercapacitors should do the trick but I'm trying to get couple more batteries. Actually, even 12V 5F supercapacitors are cheaper than any battery.
I put winding toroid on hold and will try to make this work on quadfilar coil first.
Adding capacitors in parallel with coils helps.

Replaced previous coil with nano crystalline core. All three caps are charging up to 7VDC and all Mosfets are firing in sequence. Running at 7.5VDC, 30Hz with 30% d.c. With same parameters and straight laminated core power draw was over 2A. After replacing core power draw dropped to 23mA. Scope across the coil shows wave similar to "h" with ringing and spikes around 250V. Will keep experimenting with it.


Coil inductance L = 9.97H
Resonant freq. Fres = 735Hz

I couldn't edit previous post.

Coil DC resistance 2.2Ohm.
Impedance at 30Hz = 1.9kOhm
Added 10nF to each and there are oscillations but not steady, more like in cycles. They don't seem to contribute to the charging process.

@Romero,

Do you have a scope shot of the coil from TS experiment you could share?
Have you tried running this circuit on ultra-capacitors and if yes, what capacitance you'd suggest?

I ran circuit on two caps and two batteries B1 and B3.
Starting voltage B1 10.23V, B3 10.10V (20.33V)
After 5 hrs and rest time B1 showed 10.21V and B3 10.23V (20.44V) so total gain was 0.11V.
Signal generator takes about 15mA to operate.
I don't think I reached it's true potential and will continue testing with different settings.

I'm wondering about the diodes between drains and ground. 1N5408 are common rectifiers, while Mosfets have internal fast diodes. Are they necessary?

Hi, This experiment was done very long time ago and I don't remember if I have taken any scope shots. I did not run it on supercapacitors. I had a long time without touching any of my experiments. Many of them I don't have. For the last few months I started again and I do have some intresting results. I am planning to put them on youtube but at the moment all of them are in a mess, very difficult for people to understand, with wires going in all directions.

I understand very well, as I still have some unfinished projects related to electro-medicine, which were put on hold couple years ago but I hope to finally get them done.
Your TS idea was very intriguing and I just wanted to replicate and see what you saw.
I may reduce number of windings, as this core has very high Al (123,000), thus high inductance.
I also got an idea to reduce number of turns on L1 by half, compared to L2/L3/L4  (1,2,2,2). Just need to keep an eye on the linearity of the current, to avoid saturation.
I have a feeling that I'm currently running on too low current to see any significant gain and I can't find a spot where coil would oscillate. My understanding (from you old posts) is that this is necessary to see something happening.

it takes a lot of time to get the right coil, especially because we don't understand completly the working principle.

You got that right. I use #23 wire. Steel core didn't work, since Al value was too low. Nano toroid has very high but that didn't help so far. I removed some windings and left only one layer (approx. 100T).
Been trying to sweep through frequency to find something to hang onto but still no luck.
I'm currently running on two 10.5V NiKad batteries and two 10,000uF capacitors.

Dusted off the log books and found I had not logged in here since '21. How time flies . Was playing with the TS and killed a set of nicads. glad they were not lithiums for sure.
Romero, thanks for keeping this up and going tho lots of the files are not found now. Was a great walk back to 2011 and on. Hope this finds you well and still at it. The bug never leaves when we get it. We just keep finding new things to play with.

Hi thaelin,

Would you mind sharing more details about your set up? I took a break and finished couple suspended since 2019/2020 projects but want to get back to TS one day. What kind of coil/core are you using. Are you running on 4 NiCads or batteries and caps?

Hi Chisel:
   Had to go back and print up the circuit to remember how it was. I had 4 PVC tubes with a spring loaded cap on the negative side. Inside were 4 D size cells to work on 5v system. I did use a cd4047 and cmos 555 so to run on over volts if needed. The coil was "if I remember" 4filar and 150 turns of #24 wire on a TV flyback ferite core. The 555 did have freq and dc as well to play with. I play over a few days and got a good run so left it to see what would go. Came back to a mess. NiMh bats require a taylor charge cycle, not sharp hv hits. Not to mention price of them.
   I have been contemplating making a set of lead/alum cells and giving it a go again. Those will take the punishment and keep on trukin so to speak. Just having a bit of hell to get the lead sheets. Seems that is a no no here in the us. Told them I was making a set of test batteries but to no avail.
   Hope that helps you out. Really simple circuit, use CMOS and you can go direct up to 15v easy. Fair value of ohms on the coil will net you a good back spike. Just dont go blowing the plates out of your batts. :)

 Just had a curious thought here on the TS. Maybe use lead/alum batts instead. If it starts to over charge, it boils off the water and can add more. I am looking into making some single spiral cells and give them a round or two with the old SG to see how they fair.
